Course descriptions

BIS 340 Organizational Skills

Develop and enhance the skills needed in effective organizations, such as communication and the use of technology. This course is taken over two semesters for a total of six credits.

BIS 343 Social Processes in Organizations

Examine the interdisciplinary nature of social processes and human interactions across a number of different organizational contexts.

BIS 345 Organizational Ethics

Explore and consider normative and applied ethics within a variety of organizations.

BIS 350 Diversity and Organizations

Engage in critical interdisciplinary analyses of individual, cultural and organizational diversity.

BIS 357 Assessment in Organizations

Learn about the role and function of assessment in effective organizations. Gain knowledge of tools required to identify, collect and analyze information to assess organizations.

BIS 360 Organizational Contexts

Gain an understanding of how organizations function by analyzing in depth a specific organizational context like health care, family, education, government, community, religion or the economy.

OGL 300 Theory and Practice of Leadership

Participate in the in-depth study of a variety of leadership theories and their practical applications in formal organizations. This course emphasizes the application of these theories in actual case studies.

OGL 320 Foundations of Project Management

Learn project management terminology, tools, best practices, theoretical approaches, the phases of project management, and how they are applied to develop and manage a project plan and schedule.

OGL 321 Project Leadership, Strategy and Scope

Explore how executive management conceives, designs, implements and manages an organization's overall objectives, culture, environment and processes as part of the project management process.

OGL 355 Leading Organizational Innovation and Change

Study the process of analyzing situations, developing appropriate strategies, putting strategies into action, and evaluating and changing strategies as needed.

OGL 360 Assessment of Leadership Effectiveness

Review an empirical analysis of leadership, a conceptual model of effective leadership, and a practical guide for developing the competencies and attributes most likely to produce effective leaders.

OGL 481 Organizational Leadership Pro-Seminar I

Reflect on your experience in previous organizational leadership courses, employing key concepts, theories and skills learned throughout the program toward the strategic analysis of organizations.

OGL 482 Organizational Leadership Pro-Seminar II

Examine career management literature and theory and connect with ideas learned in previous organizational leadership work. Explore the balance between work and other important elements in life, and develop strategies for living a meaningful and fulfilling work life.
