What is your favorite ASU tradition? Yes, ASU Football game days are exciting, but Pat’s Run is my favorite tradition of the year. Sponsored by the Pat Tillman Foundation, Pat’s Run was created to honor the life and legacy of ASU alumnus Pat Tillman who lost his life while serving with the 75th Ranger Regiment in Afghanistan. While a member of the ASU football team, Tillman proudly wore the number 42 football jersey. The 4.2 mile course winds through the streets of Tempe and is staged so that all participants finish on the 42-yard line on Frank Kush Field inside Sun Devil Stadium.

What is a program or experience that you think a student should check out here at ASU? It is important to think about what your body of work is going to represent at the end of your 4 years at ASU and what you are going to talk about beyond the academic experience. One that is close to my heart is the Public Service Academy. A four-year leadership development program where students study their chosen major, engage in practical elements of leadership, learn cross-sector collaboration and take internships each summer working on real issues in the public, private and nonprofit sectors all while pursuing their own chosen social mission.

Who is an ASU Alum that everyone should know about? You’ll definitely notice a lot of skateboards around campus, but also a lot of fixed gear bikes too. If you pay attention, you will notice that one of most popular fixed gear brands, State Bicycle. State Bicycle Co was founded by 3 ASU Alumni 2 years after they graduated. They wanted to build a bike that was affordable and high quality without costing a ton of money. This says a lot about the entrepreneurial spirit that exists at ASU, and how our students and alumni identify problems then develop creative solutions!

On the weekend you can find me… I am a bit of a music nerd, so I am out and about at shows or festivals. One of my favorites is McDowell Mountain Music Festival, which is a 100% non-profit event that has donated over $1 million to Arizona Charities since it started (http://m3ffest.com/about/).

What is your advice for the college search and application process? Everyone always asks about what your major is going to be or what you are going to major in, but I prefer to ask what your dream job would be. By talking about what your dream job is or about your passions are, I can help identify degree programs that might be a better fit for you.
